Murcia Sets New International Tourism Records in Early 2026

The Region of Murcia has kicked off 2026 with record-breaking international tourism figures, confirming its growing popularity as one of Spain’s most attractive destinations for overseas visitors.

Strong Growth in Visitor Numbers

The latest data shows that February 2026 alone welcomed 65,944 international tourists, marking a 6.9% increase compared to the same month in 2025 well above Spain’s national average growth of 2.8%.

Looking at the first two months of the year, Murcia received a total of 128,392 international visitors, highlighting a strong and sustained upward trend in tourism across the region.

Tourists Staying Longer and Spending More

It’s not just visitor numbers that are rising tourists are also staying longer and spending more during their trips.

In February, total international visitor spending reached €88.1 million, an increase of 7.7% compared to the previous year. On average, tourists spent €158.77 per day, significantly higher than in 2025.

The average stay in Murcia was 8.42 days, exceeding the national average, while the overall average for January and February climbed to 12.49 days, showing that visitors are choosing to spend more time exploring the region.

Growing Interest from Across Europe

Murcia continues to attract visitors from across Europe, with the UK remaining the largest source market, accounting for nearly 30% of international arrivals.

Other key markets include:

  • France, with strong year-on-year growth
  • The Netherlands, showing a significant increase in visitors
  • Germany, Italy, Belgium, and Ireland, all contributing to rising numbers

These figures reflect the region’s growing reputation as a diverse and appealing destination for international travellers.

A Destination on the Rise

From its Mediterranean beaches and the Mar Menor lagoon to historic cities and scenic countryside, Murcia offers a wide range of experiences that continue to attract new and returning visitors.

With tourists staying longer and spending more, the early months of 2026 suggest that Murcia is not only increasing in popularity but also strengthening its position as a key destination in Spain’s tourism market.
