New flights to Venice and Lille headline a record summer schedule for the Region of Murcia International Airport
As the summer travel season gets underway, Corvera Airport is preparing for its busiest period in years, with passengers set to benefit from a total of 20 routes connecting the Region of Murcia with destinations across seven countries. The expanded schedule marks the airport's most comprehensive summer offering since before the pandemic and could help push annual passenger numbers beyond the one-million mark once again.
The Region of Murcia International Airport, commonly known as Corvera Airport, will see six additional routes added to its network as airlines ramp up operations for the peak summer months. While some services have been available since the start of the summer season in April, the full schedule will be in place by the end of June.
New Routes Strengthen International Connectivity
One of the biggest developments this year comes from Volotea, which is expanding beyond its existing Barcelona service with the return of several popular routes and the launch of two completely new destinations.
From late June, passengers will once again be able to fly directly from Corvera to:
- Asturias
- Bilbao
- Marseille
In addition, the airline will launch new routes to:
- Lille, France
- Venice, Italy
The Venice service is particularly significant as it represents the first direct connection between the Region of Murcia and Italy in the airport's history. Both new routes are expected to improve accessibility for leisure travellers and attract more international visitors to the region.
Twenty Routes Across Seven Countries
By July, Corvera Airport will offer direct flights to destinations in:
- Spain
- United Kingdom
- Ireland
- France
- Italy
- Belgium
- Morocco
The expanded network reinforces Murcia's position as an increasingly connected Mediterranean destination and provides residents with a wider range of travel options during the summer season.
Several airlines, including Ryanair, easyJet and Volotea, are contributing to the airport's busiest schedule to date. British routes continue to play a particularly important role, reflecting the strong tourism and residential links between Murcia and the UK.
Can Corvera Break the One-Million Passenger Barrier?
The summer schedule arrives at a crucial time for the airport.
According to passenger data released by Aena, Corvera handled 229,194 passengers during the first four months of 2026, closely matching figures recorded during the same period in 2019. Airport operators and tourism officials are hopeful that strong summer demand could finally help the facility surpass one million annual passengers again, a milestone not achieved since its early years of operation.
The airport recorded almost 950,000 passengers during 2025, and forecasts suggest further growth this year as additional routes and seat capacity come online.
Improved Transport Links to the Airport
Passengers travelling to and from Corvera will also benefit from enhanced ground transportation services this summer.
Bus services connecting the airport with Murcia and Cartagena have been expanded, with 238 weekly journeys now operating. The improvements are designed to make airport access easier for both tourists and local residents during the busy holiday season.
Tourism Officials Continue to Pursue New Connections
The summer expansion is not the end of Corvera's growth plans.
The Region of Murcia's Tourism Institute (Itrem) has been actively promoting the airport at major European aviation events, holding meetings with airlines and airport operators to explore additional routes and strengthen existing services. Tourism officials believe improved air connectivity remains key to attracting international visitors and supporting the region's tourism industry.
With demand for travel continuing to recover and airlines increasing capacity across Europe, Corvera Airport is entering what could become its most successful summer season yet.
